Design of Educational Technologies for 287 million learners

Problem: 287 million learners spread across 22 Indian languages, who can speak the language but cannot read or write. Thousands of physical primers (instructional material) developed under the aegis of National Literacy Mission.

How to design educational technologies for such a scale and variety without losing focus on quality of instruction?
  • model different aspects of instructional design (consisting of goals, process, content) using patterns based on Bloom's taxonomy and Merrill's first principles of instruction
  • concretely represent them using ontologies
  • apply software product lines to model a family of instructional designs and further semi-automatically generate eLearning Systems based on these instructional designs

Gamification & Platforms

Can we make teaching/learning interesting? Can gamification help? The focus of this project is to design games for different domains like software egnienering, programming, data structures and so on to make learning fun from the ouside and facilitate reasoning ability at the backend by basing our design on commonly established instructional design models. We are also keen to explore emerging trends like augumented reality, touch and other ways to facilitate better learning experience
